BMW iX3 Debuts as Longest-Range Electric SUV in UK Line-Up
10/10/25
BMW has lifted the covers on the next-generation iX3, its latest fully electric SUV and the first production model to be built on the carmaker’s new Neue Klasse platform. The vehicle made its debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich and will arrive in the UK in spring 2026.
Leading the line-up will be the iX3 50 xDrive, fitted with a 108.7kWh battery and capable of delivering an official 500-mile range under WLTP testing. Power comes from a dual-motor system producing 463bhp, sending drive to all four wheels and allowing the SUV to sprint from 0–62mph in 4.9 seconds.
BMW has also equipped the iX3 with its new 800-volt electrical system, designed to support the fastest charging speeds currently available. At a 400kW charger, more than 200 miles of range can be added in just 10 minutes, while a 350kW unit can achieve a similar result in under 15 minutes. Even a 150kW charger will provide a useful top-up in around half an hour.
Design and Efficiency
The new iX3 has been developed with a focus on aerodynamics, adopting proportions designed to reduce drag and increase efficiency. Six exterior colour choices will be available at launch: Ocean Wave Blue, Alpine White, Space Silver, Polarised Grey, Black Sapphire, and Brooklyn Grey.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the SUV introduces BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system, featuring a wide digital display that stretches across the dashboard. The system includes customisable widgets, performance graphics in Sport mode, and an optional head-up display with 3D augmented navigation directions.
Rear passengers benefit from increased space, with enough room to comfortably accommodate adults over six feet tall. The vehicle provides 520 litres of boot capacity, with an additional 58 litres under the bonnet for charging cables.
Technology highlights include:
- Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, which automatically maintains speed and distance before braking the vehicle to a standstill if required.
- A wireless charging tray for smartphones, which can be deactivated when not needed.
- A suite of sensors, cameras, and radar systems providing continuous monitoring of the vehicle’s surroundings.
Trims and Pricing
The BMW iX3 will be offered in Standard, M Sport and M Sport Pro trims.
- Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and cruise control.
- M Sport trim adds a sports steering wheel, enhanced lighting and styling upgrades.
- M Sport Pro models bring sports seats and a more aggressive design.
The iX3 will go on sale in the UK in spring 2026, with prices starting from £58,755. This positions it below the Polestar 3, with BMW expected to offer additional, lower-cost versions at a later date.
