Geely Launches in the UK with the EX5 Electric SUV

15/07/25Geely Launches in the UK with the EX5 Electric SUV

Geely is officially entering the UK market, but this isn’t just another new name on the block. The Chinese automotive giant already owns a number of well-known brands, including LEVC, Lotus, Polestar, and Volvo.

The first Geely-branded model heading to UK showrooms will be the EX5, a compact electric SUV. While official UK specifications haven’t been revealed yet, Geely has confirmed that the EX5 has been evaluated by Lotus Engineering to determine whether any adjustments are needed to suit European roads and driving styles.

In recent years, we've seen a wave of new Chinese brands arrive in the UK—names like BYDOmoda, and Jaecoo have quickly established a presence. Geely is now set to join that growing list.

The EX5 is expected to mirror the variant offered in Australia, featuring either a 49.5kWh or 60.2kWh battery. The larger pack provides a range of up to 264 miles on a single charge. Both versions support DC fast charging at up to 100kW, allowing the bigger battery to charge from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes. It is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 215 bhp, enabling a 0–62 mph time of 6.9 seconds, which is a respectable performance for a compact SUV.

Inside, the EX5 features a five-seat layout and a tech-forward cabin. A large 15.4-inch infotainment display dominates the dashboard, paired with a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display. Physical controls are kept to a minimum, with most functions handled via the touchscreen, aside from a large rotary gear selector located in the centre console.

UK specifications and pricing are yet to be confirmed, but if the Australian-market model is any indication, we could see a starting price between £30,000 and £35,000.

Geely has indicated that fleet buyers will be a key focus for the EX5, which makes sense given the strong demand for electric vehicles in the corporate and leasing sectors at the moment in the UK.

Deliveries of the EX5 in the UK are expected to begin between October and the end of the year.

This is just the beginning for Geely in the UK. More models from the brand are expected to follow in 2026. While Geely already sells vehicles in other markets under different names, none of those models have yet launched in the UK under the Geely badge.

The EX5 is expected to compete with established rivals such as the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Skoda Enyaq.

And while Geely may not be a household name in the UK just yet, globally it’s a major player. In 2024, Geely Auto Group reported record sales of 2.1 million vehicles—a 34% increase year-on-year—with over 400,000 of those sold outside of China.

Rather than piggybacking on its existing brands like Volvo or Polestar, Geely plans to enter the UK with its own dedicated dealership network, another sign the company is taking this market seriously.

If the EX5 lives up to what we’ve seen so far, it could be a strong first step for the brand, with more to come in 2026 and beyond.
